We recently did and have never felt better!
The corporate world these days can be a really rough place. With the recession that has hit the economy, businesses have become even more concerned with protecting their own interests to prevent being swept away in the sea of bankruptcies. However, as tempting as it is to be aggressive and forceful in this type of an economy, it’s important to remember that the business life, as well as one’s own personal life, isn’t always about the money. Businesses that are run with the strict intention of boosting often suffer in the long run as people tend not to want to support a company that doesn’t use their profits to give back to the community. As such there are many benefits to “sharing the love” so to speak, but the question then becomes: how does one share the love?
Firstly, it’s important to understand that not everyone has the same skillset. For example, we at Impulse Products are excellent at marketing, product development, sourcing and so on. That doesn’t mean we can write mean, fast computer code. We won’t create the iPhone 5 or the Xbox 720. What we will do is help transform your business and take it to heights that you never thought were possible. But we also use that to give back to the community – to help people get chances that they never thought were possible. And that’s such a cool opportunity that we have to make a positive difference in the world.
That brings us to our second point, making a difference helps everyone feel better. It makes you and your employees feel good. It’s sometimes hard to keep team spirit high and sharing the love, so to speak, can help provide a foundation for a common goal that brings the team together and makes people work better together. Consider charities like Habitat for Humanity – these are complete strangers that are brought together with one common goal, to build houses for underprivileged people. These people almost instantly work together as a team to make these goals a reality.
Giving people a common goal outside of that of your business’ main focus can bolster team morale and spirit in ways that you never thought were possible. But more importantly, you can make a very positive difference in the life of one or more individuals. And while, as a business owner, you’re clearly looking to boost your profits, sometimes life needn’t be all about the money. Leaving a positive legacy on the world is worth more than any amount of money, and it’s important that your enterprise be responsible in the corporate community. More and more your corporate survival is dependent upon it, and it can make everyone involved in your organisation feel a sense of pride and esteem working for you.

BUSINESS AWARDS: TAKE YOUR COMPANY TO NEW HEIGHTS |
|
Experiencing one of the best rewarding nights to date for Impulse Products after being selected as one of the finalist in the Telstra Business Awards, it got me thinking, business awards can help you build your brand and take your company to new heights. Consider the following scenario, you’re looking to buy grocery products from two different supermarkets. One supermarket has recently won a “freshest produce” award from a prominent magazine. The other grocery store hasn’t won any awards. If you’re looking to buy produce, which store are you more likely to go to? Even if you’re not looking to get produce, wouldn’t you rather buy your products from a company that excels in at least one aspect of their business? People have a natural tendency to assume that a company that excels in one area likely excels in others too.
Business awards are primarily about marketing. You can prominently display your award in all your advertising and show how you’re better than the competition. Moreover, awards need not necessarily be about your products. Winning awards such as “best employer” makes people feel more comfortable about buying from your business as opposed to other companies with poor labor practices. Getting sales in any industry can be extremely competitive, but especially in the retail and grocery sectors. Selling store brands is challenging as well, and this requires a strong trust in your brand to choose it over other brands with larger advertising budgets. Building this trust requires excellence, and that can be achieved with amazing industry awards.
However winning business awards need not necessarily be focused strictly on the consumer or your business partners. There are many hidden benefits as well. These benefits include improved morale. No one wants to work for a poorly performing company or an underachiever in their field. Everyone wants to work for a winning company that is a leader in their field. As such, winning awards for your company can boost morale in ways that other perks can’t. For example, paying your employees top salaries is clearly the classic way to keep them motivated, but if their efforts are continuously failing and the business as a whole is not doing well, they will eventually become discouraged no matter how much you pay them.
Clearly, therefore, business awards are great to have. They bring recognition from your peers and other people in the industry, motivate your employees to work diligently to preserve and win new acclimations, and they also work very well for marketing. The latter may seem like the most important – and certainly the most tangible bonus that comes with winning a prestigious award – but if you analyze it, the boosts to morale and recognition from your industry peers can be just as beneficial to your corporate interests. Using Impulse products and services will help you find the best awards for your company and streamline your operations so that you can win those awards. If you’re looking to build the best business around, we would highly recommend that you start applying for some awards. Your employees, marketing department, and bottom line will be very thankful that you did.

HOW IMPORTING CAN STIMULATE LOCAL EMPLOYMENT |
|
We’ve all heard of the massive trade deficit that the United States has. The US imports more goods from other countries that it sends out and we hear this all the time as being a bad thing. On the whole for the United States it is a bad thing, but it need not necessarily be a bad thing for the local job market. Clearly when we import goods, we trade money for something tangible. As such, the money flows out of the local economy and this in and of itself is a bad thing. By contrast, when we export goods, we gain money in exchange for giving something tangible – a transaction that is deemed to be favorable.
Importing however does create many job opportunities. Consider all that is involved with the importation of goods. You must hire the entire supply chain staff, from the truck drivers that bring the goods to the warehouse to the workers that unload it to the people that process it. All of these jobs are created to handle goods coming into the local economy. In addition, there are jobs created that handle the distribution of goods as well – you need sales people to move those goods, marketing people to create a buzz for them, and customer service reps to handle questions about them. Indeed there are many unique jobs that are created that help the local economy when goods come into it.
However, critiques of importation often argue that such jobs are temporary. Because the cash being spent on the goods is from the local economy, and importation involves sending that money essentially to a destination outside of that economy, people say that such a balance is not sustainable. These people would be correct. One also must look at the bigger picture. We all need certain goods to be imported – no local economy can manufacture every product needed for that economy. And often the importation of those goods enables better products to be exported. Although it may seem like a trivial example, by importing many computer parts from other parts of the world, local economies are able to design software, create ads, balance budgets, and so on. All of which are very productive in the global economy and allow for easier exports. Importing these computer parts also opens up a plethora of different career choices that would never be available if they were not around.
Importing is often the boogey-man for a lot of the woes facing an economy, but it need not be that way. It is a vital part of a healthy economy and can create local jobs in the same way exporting does as well. In many respects the two are similar – importing requires much of the same supply chain logistics that exporting requires as well. Local economies can benefit from having an extremely strong import economy. This is especially true if the goods being imported directly aid in the production of goods to be exported. Indeed, one can easily see that importing is just as important to job creation as exporting does.
