| GIVE ‘EM WHAT THEY WANT: THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT |
|
We always say that when developing new products, it’s important to give the customer what they want, even if you have to help them know what that is. Let's elaborate further.
Model brand name products Private label products are designed to allow retailers and other companies to develop their own line of products separate and unique from the brand-name products. However, they are usually modeled on the popular brand-name products. One of the first things to consider, then, when developing private label products is to think about what the customer might want. You can do this by paying attention to what products sell well in stores. Successful private label products will model these successful brand-name products; the marketing will highlight what aspect of the products are appealing to customers, and the private label product will then reach its target audience appropriately.
Pay attention to packaging Even though they're on a budget, many customers walk into a store not knowing exactly what they are going to buy. Those of us who develop new products know that if we present the customer with a well-packaged private label product that mirrors the features in the brand-name product has, the customer might buy that product. Which is, of course, the ultimate goal.
Market and source appropriately Marketing and sourcing the product appropriately is essential to the success of private label products. Finding a good and affordable source for materials is critical to being able to price a private label product well below a brand-name product’s price point. In addition, packaging the product so it is appealing to the eye and desirable to the customer is critical to encouraging the customer to pick up the product, put in their cart, and make that purchase.
Provide a high-quality product Finally, don’t insult your customer by providing a low-quality, low-rent version of a brand name. Instead, through judicious marketing and the help of a company like Impulse Products, you should provide a high-quality private label product that either meets or exceeds the standards set by the brand name product. Even if your potential customer heads into the store not knowing what his or her ultimate purchase is going to be, if you create a high-quality private label products, you will ultimately create a product that a customer will come back to the store for time and time again.
